19 5. DEPENDANTS 5.1 Eligibility A Dependant in relation to a Policyholder in Good Standing will be: • a natural child; or • a legally adopted child; or • a child adopted by custom provided that both natural parents are deceased, who has been recorded by a Church Branch Committee Member in the Payment Book of the Policyholder provided that new born and adopted children of a Policyholder must be recorded within a period of 6 (six) months after the date of birth or adoption as the case may be. 5.2 Exclusions A Dependant shall specifically exclude a child: • who survives a Policyholder and does not qualify as a Paid-up Dependant in terms hereof; • of a Dependant of a Policyholder; • who is 25 (twenty-five) years or older. Subject to other provisions, a child who is 25 (twenty-five) years or older and permanently dependent on the Policyholder because of mental and/or physical disability will not be a Dependant unless: • the Disability existed or occurred whilst the child otherwise qualified as a Dependant; • the Policyholder paid at least one Premium and Contribution prior to the date the child would otherwise cease to qualify as a Dependant and thereafter paid a Premium and Contribution with a Date of Payment in each ensuing Month. Unless otherwise determined by Kganya Botswana, a natural child of a Policyholder who is the father shall not be a Dependant of that Policyholder unless: • the natural mother is deceased; or • the Policyholder is the legal guardian of such a child; or • the natural mother is not a member of ZCC Botswana. The onus of proving that a child is a Dependant shall be on the Policyholder or Beneficiary. DEPENDANTS
